Bile Peritonitis

Abstract
Author studied clinical and a review of previous pablications for bile peritonitis treated
at the Dept. of Pussan National University Hospital during the years Feb., 1964-Mar., 1969.
Bile peritonitis is an uncommon acute abdomen, however, in spite of rarity, it revealed high mortality
rate, various pathologic precesses and poorly understood its conditions, Bile peritonitis was 13 cases
(9.2%) among 120 cases of the acute or chronic cholecystitis.
1) The ratio of sex was 8:5, 38.4% attacked to third decades and mean age was 39 years old.
2) 9 cases (69.0%) had a past history of the chronic cholecystitis.
3) Preoperative diagnosis was corrected in 61.1%(8 cases) and duration of illness was usually less
than 1 or 2 weeks.
4) Clinical symptoms of bile peritonitis are not different almost from other origins of acute
peritonitis.
5) There was revealed mild anemic signs and leucocytosis inverted A/G ratio in 53.8% and in
53.8% elevated total serum bilirubin.
6) If the patient¢¥s conditions were permitted, it was favorable to perform cholecystectomy with
choledochostomy.
7) The prognosis is depend to a large degree on the time elapsing between the onset of symptoms
and institution of definitive treatment. THe shorter this period, the better the prognosis. The
mortality rate was 2 cases (15.3%).
